Description
On the label of the Good Face Day Serum bottle you are reminded that you’re already beautiful. Even so, this little potion does a stellar job of boosting the likelihood you’ll have a ‘good face day’ by virtue of its gentle, plant-powered, caring ingredients.
A glorious morning-time counterpart to the Overnight Face Food with Mandarin, Carrot Seed & Neroli, I made this with similar principles in mind (plus some carefully-chosen ingredients to help protect my skin from the elements): any face oil of mine had to be the antithesis of pore-clogging; in fact I wanted it to actively clear and help keep pores clean. It needed to be lightweight enough to blend in without feeling greasy; just a few drops needed to add nourishment and glow. It needed to smell subtle, yet divine (naturally so), and be packed full of the kind of nutrients that make me feel good about my face as well as good about what I’m doing for my face.
Although I don’t (can’t officially) recommend it is used instead of sunscreen, especially if your skin burns easily, raspberry seed oil is known to offer a small amount of natural protection against UVA & UVB rays and is the main ingredient in this serum, while the jojoba, hemp & hazelnut oils also offer some (very slight) natural UVB protection. My personal experience is that this serum is effective (in fact, I got sunburned in the south of India on the one day I forgot to put this on in the morning), but scientific experiments haven’t rallied themselves around this topic fully, so claims about raspberry seed oil remain largely anecdotal, and in strong sunshine you should always protect your skin with a high factor suncream/block.
Uses & Directions:
Dispense just a couple of drops (a little goes a long way!) into your hand and smooth over your face in gentle upward/outward movements. Allow a few moments to sink in before applying make up. Tip: I like to quickly rub any remnants of oil left on my hands afterwards in my hair if it’s a bit flyaway.
Key ingredients/benefits:
RED RASPBERRY SEED OIL: This oil has the highest content of alpha linolenic acid of any fruit seed oils, making it very effective against inflammation. Meanwhile, its ellegic acid content can reduce the destruction of collagen and it’s also very high in vitamin E, giving good antioxidant properties. A youth booster! (In addition, see info about UV protection, above!)
CAMELLIA (TEA SEED) OIL: The seed which transforms into the wonder that is tea leaves, camellia is softening, moisturising and antioxidant rich while being light enough to blend in. Tea is one of my all time favourite ingredients, hence featuring in every product. See here for a rundown of its benefits.
HAZELNUT SEED OIL: Good for both dry and oily skin, hazelnut helps to balance both and restore equilibrium, hydrating skin while absorbing any excess oil. Without feeling greasy, its natural fats plump up cells, leaving skin soft.
JUNIPER BERRY ESSENTIAL OIL: A distinctive and unique oil, woody and fresh with a hint of fruit, the key ingredient in gin also comes with a whole host of health boosters your skin will happily lap up. A natural antiseptic, juniper berry essential oil has a purifying scent with astringent, toning qualities, promoting circulation and detoxification (which makes sense, because the branches of the juniper tree were once used to ward off evil spirits).
ORGANIC ARGAN OIL: One of my favourite things about this oil is that, like the others carefully chosen for this blend, it doesn’t cause blockages, spots or oil build up. Full of antioxidants, vitamin E and essential fatty acids, many claim it boosts elasticity of the skin (keeping things looking fresh and vibrant) and it’s another balancing oil that helps keep your complexion on an even keel.
GRAPESEED OIL: Wonderful for acne sufferers, gentle and hydrating, the seeds from delicious grapes (celebrated in many an Old Masters painting) are vital nuggets of skin-loving nutrients and join the ‘light and easily absorbed’ club.
HEMP: Ah, hemp; omegas galore. Brilliant for most skin conditions, hemp seed oil manages to moisturise, soften and neutralise the inflammation and redness associated with breakouts, eczema or dry/itchy skin. Yet another oil that helps balance sebum production and (like old school-day rubbers made from hemp) adds a little correction here and there.
FRANKINCENSE: Steam distilled from the resin of the Boswelia genus of trees, frankincense has a rather regal scent which is also calming and uplifting – it’s even thought to lift and tighten skin naturally.
NEROLI: This beautiful scent comes from the steam distillation of orange blossom, a huge amount of which goes into every drop. Neroli is a subtle, divine oil, on the cusp between floral and citrus, and exhibits antimicrobial and antioxidant activities, also balancing skin tone and elasticity.
MDEADOWFOAM: Meadowfoam oil is cold pressed from the tiny seeds of Limnanthes alba, and offers skin softening and antioxidant properties.
HELICHRYSUM: Only a few of the 500 species of helichrysum produce essential oil, and steam distillation is achieved within 24 hours of harvesting the youngest flowers. A radiant, gold flower with a broad spectrum of uses, helichyrsum is an uplifting, stress-relieving essential oil, with anti-acne, anti-inflammation, anti-irritation properties. It’s used in ayurveda for rejuvenating, anti-ageing actions, among others.
ROSEMARY: Rosemary has antimicrobial and antiseptic qualities, helps tone the skin, prevent dryness and adds glow. It has a clearing, enlivening scent.
SPIKE LAVENDER: a classic, calming fragrance with antibacterial, soothing qualities for skin. Spike lavender is relaxing without necessarily causing drowsiness.
JOJOBA: Jojoba’s natural structure mimics that of our own sebum, which makes it perfect for sinking in, softening and nourishing. Technically a wax, it’s lightly moisturising and suitable for all skin types.
Ingredients:
Rubus idaeus (Raspberry) seed oil, Vitis vinifera (Grape) seed oil, Camellia sinensis (Camellia) seed oil (Tea Seed), Argania spinosa (Organic Argan) kernel oil, Cannabis sativa (Hemp) seed oil, Corylus avellana (Hazelnut) seed oil, Limnanthes alba (Meadowfoam) seed oil, Lavandula latifolia (Spike Lavender) flower oil, Juniperus communis (Juniper berry) fruit oil, Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) leaf oil, Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) seed oil, Boswellia carterii (Frankincense) oil, Citrus aurantium (Neroli) flower oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Helichrysum angustifolium flower oil. I would not be without this now. For years I have been wearing serums and day cream under full foundation before facing the world. Now I just use one pump of this and a bit of tinted moisturiser to even skin tone, and I’m ready to roll. I started with this day oil and then quickly saw an improvement in the balance of my skin and so ordered the night oil as well, which I also love and won’t be without.

Absolutely gorgeous. I suffer with acne and have real combination skin. I haven’t broke out at all with this. Coupled with the overnight face food and the cleansing balm my skin feels super soft!
Amazing product! Thank you!

This stuff has been an actual game-changer for my skin. I have naturally oily/combo skin and have battled it for so many years. Over the past year or two, I’ve been trying to work with it and moisturise it before, then a couple of months ago, I started using Leafology’s products on my face and … Well, let me tell you about just two things that have happened in that time …
1. I’ve been complimented on my skin. On more than one occasion. This has never happened to me before. I’ve always considered myself to have BAD skin. One of those times was by a makeup artist and beauty expert who was shocked to learn my skin’s naturally oily.
2. I can get to the end of the day without blotting or powdering my skin and it’s still matte. I used to be shiny by 11am. By the end of the day, my foundation had gone completely, having slid off my oily skin. Now, it still looks great when I take it off. I’m in shock!
Before trying this serum, I had been using an oil serum at night for a while, but I was skeptical about putting oil on my face in the day considering my oily t-zone. I needn’t have been! This in conjunction with the cleansing balm and overnight oil have completely changed my skin (and just in time for me to get married later this month – phew!). I’m so pleased – thank you, Ella Rose! <3

This does what it says on the tin – using the Good Day Face serum (alongside the Overnight Face Food) has made such a big diference to my skin. I have very sensitive, dry, somewhat acne prone skin, and this has calmed it down so much! My rosacea also doesn’t flare up as much, and people have commented on how good my skin looks – it’s truly a skin saviour, and I wouldn’t be without it or the Overnight Face Food 🙂

Even after using this product for over a year now I still can’t get over how fabulously deeply moisturising this daytime serum is, yet holds my makeup in place straight after application! Smells amazing, feels so so nourishing and gives a healthy dewy look to my skin – with zero oily/greasiness. I have a 50ml for home and a 10ml for travel as I literally can’t go a day without this stuff! Buy it. You won’t regret it!

My second face saviour, alongside the Overnight Face Food. This sits under makeup beautifully, smells divine, and leaves my skin dewy and fresh even when my natural foundation inevitably disappears later on in the day. Don’t worry about it feeling oily when you first try a pump of it – it sinks in so quickly and is truly lovely to wear.

Without a doubt my favorite skincare line. I have struggled with acne since I was a pre-teen (I am now 28) and have been searching for years to find the best routine. The good face day serum is like a nourishing balm for the soul, and face! I have never seen my skin look so radiant and blemish-free. Best part is, the serum doesn’t leave my face feeling too oily or too dry. And it holds up well with makeup. It is actually perfect.

This along side with the Overnight Face Food and my favourite Leafology products so far 😍. This serum works wonders on my skin and wears well throughout the day, even under makeup. This product made a difference in hydrating and softening my skin after only a short time, but with two months of use my face is noticeably smoother and even-toned. My sister said my skin was glowing and asked what I was using (after she confirmed I wasn’t pregnant 😂).

I’ve been using this for a couple of months now and just LOVE it! I use it every morning and love how it smells, how it applies, and how it makes my skin feel all day long.

I have a problem with combination skin, and although I think it’s really important to keep one’s skincare regime 100% toxin-free I haven’t managed to do so because I’ve not found the right product – until now. This Good Face Day Serum has really balanced my skin out and I feel so much better for having natural ingredients on my face. I love the fact that I can mix it in with my tinted SPF cream and know that my skin is getting some wholesome food.
