One of the things I struggled with early on in my efforts to avoid synthetic/unchampionable chemicals and the prevalence of plastic packaging was toothpaste. If only there was a simpler way to clean our teeth without those awful toothpaste tubes, prevent staining from tea/coffee (yes, this is the ONLY product in the Leafology range which doesn’t contain tea, and with good reason!!) and prevent the build up of plaque that can lead to decay and damage. Something naturally effective, enlivening and powerful, so you can go about your day freshly minted…
Do you feel the same?
Well, here you are then. I now only use this, morning and night, to clean my teeth and no longer enjoy the weirdly (to me) ‘fake’ feeling of foaming and synthetically-scented toothpaste. You can go the whole hog, like me, and switch over completely (and I should mention that an exact quote from my dentist recently was ‘lovely lovely lovely lovely’), or just use it now and then. It’s abrasive enough to make a difference (promoting healthy enamel and gums), while gentle enough for sensitive, twice-daily use.
Things that the Tooth Powder ISN’T:
– made with petroleum/parabens/SLS/propylene glycol/microbeads/endocrine-disrupting chemicals, foaming, full of synthetic chemical fillers, overly-sweet or synthetically flavoured.
– pure white in colour. The natural ingredients, such as organic aloe vera powder, have a dinstinctly off-white hue to them. This doesn’t stain your teeth; quite the contrary!
Things that the Tooth Powder IS: naturally mineral rich, gently polishing, helpful in removing stains, soothing, antimicrobial, bad-breath-busting and full of nutrients to help oral health flourish.
You’ll find it’s got a pleasingly gritty texture and interestingly mint-fennel-clove-cardamom taste (it will taste less sweet than most commercial toothpastes, but is sweetened naturally with xylitol, which is actively good for teeth!). The powder is a blend of clay, salts, minerals, essential oils and other examples of plant/earth goodness. (See the list below for a rundown on each and its benefits!)
Dentists are increasingly agreeing that what matters perhaps above all is brushing technique. Tooth Bright can work as an aid to getting through those obligatory two minutes with joy (and confidence that you’re not using any chemicals you really might not upon closer inspection want to be introducing to your system via your mouth)!
Uses & Directions:
Tooth powder is new to many, though quite traditional in some cultures. The important thing to note is that Tooth Bright doesn’t contain any kind of preservative, so you need to avoid getting the powder inside the jar wet (as this could introduce conditions for mould to start growing). It’s perfectly easy, though:
Simply dip a clean, dry toothbrush (don’t wet it first!) into the jar and brush as normal.
…Prefer to use a spoon? Add a mini birch wood spoon to your order for less than £1!
You can also use the powder as a ready-mix for mouthwash (don’t expect the powder to fully dissolve in the water though). Just mix half a teaspoon with a cup of water, rinse and spit out. (This is excellent for travelling; you don’t need to pack an extra liquid item, and you don’t need to use much!)
Choose from the drop-down options when adding to your basket either the 60ml glass jar or a larger amount mailed to you in a paper bag for you to refill your empty jar at home.
We strongly recommend that you immediately decant the contents into a clean & completely dry glass jar, to eliminate the chance of moisture entering the product & to preserve its freshness. Then: keep the jar somewhere cool, out of direct sunlight, so it can sleep peacefully until you need it.
Please note that, in keeping with the law and regulations around cosmetic products, we will affix the original label to your paper bag and hand-write the weight you’ve ordered (which will be different to what the label says) onto the bag.
BICARBONATE OF SODA: Well known for its ability to keep teeth as naturally white as possible, this forms a large part of the powder. It’s an effective stain remover and can also rebalance levels of acid in the mouth that can lead to halitosis (bad breath).
XYLITOL: A plant-based sweetener that is actually good for your teeth! While sugar feeds bacteria, xylitol helps kill it, neutralising acids and helping to prevent bacteria sticking to the teeth, resisting the build up of plaque.
DEAD SEA SALT: Salt water rinses have long been used in dental care, and Dead Sea salt is uniquely composed of nutrients such as bromide, magnesium, calcium and potassium which help neutralise acids and keep bacteria at bay. (And don’t worry; the salty taste is balanced by the sweetening xylitol!)
KAOLIN CLAY: Binds naturally to toxins to help lift them away, while packing in high levels of some extra minerals, such as calcium. Helps to polish and whiten!
CALCIUM CARBONATE (VEGAN-SOURCED): Calcium helps form and maintain bones and teeth, so it makes sense that more of it can be beneficial to the structures of our teeth and support healthy enamel. Extracted from the red marine algae Lithothamnion calcareum, its fine powder composition can also help whiten and remove stains without abrasiveness.
ALOE VERA: Often used in cases where gentle healing is required, aloe vera is also antibacterial. Cleansing and soothing.
PEPPERMINT, SPEARMINT, FENNEL, CARDAMOM, CLOVE & MYRRH ESSENTIAL OILS: All of these powerful essential oils play a part in keeping the powder minty and breath-freshening while promoting good oral health. Fennel is widely used in toothcare due to its antimicrobial properties; clove is a traditional remedy for tooth pain and can help prevent and heal mouth ulcers; spearmint is antiseptic and soothing; myrrh is antimicrobial and is astringent, so helps promote healthy blood flow in gums; cardamom (with its spicy-sweet flavour profile) is effective against bad breath; peppermint has been found to be extremely effective at killing anaerobic bacteria, which can cause gum disease.
