It’s a good thing to be ‘fussy’ about the ingredients used in our skincare and haircare products. It really does matter, since so much of what we apply is absorbed by the skin into the body.
Hippocrates famously said ‘Let food be thy medicine’ and I often liken the process of creating our formulations to another personal love of mine: cooking (after all, this too is a case of using an array of plants to create delicious combinations which aim to be healthy and pleasing to the senses). It should be no surprise, then, that many of our ingredients are familiar food items, ‘food grade’ or at least techically edible!

PRESERVATIVE: DEHYDROACETIC ACID & BENZYL ALCOHOL:
Preservatives help inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms, extending the shelf life of the product and ensuring its safety for use. By law, cosmetic forumulations made with water (including natural floral hydrosols) are required to have an effective preservation component in place, but don’t worry, we’ve chosen a gentle one. It consists of two naturally-occurring organic compounds, derived from natural ingredients (dehydroacetic acide & benzyl alcohol) and conforms to the requirements of COSMOS (Cosmetics Organic Standard) and ECOCERT. We’ve added a tiny dash of preservative to our body scrubs, in case of small amounts of water entering the jars via damp fingers, so that the product is protected (the Cacao & Cardamom scrub was originally released as a lip scrub, so we didn’t think this necessary).
