Thermometer’s rising… Here’s how to cool down! 🧊❄︎

Leafology Journal: Leaves, Shoots & Roots

Want to go from 🥵 to 🧊?

⬇️ Below are my top 3 recommendations for cooling down rapidly (and naturally); the things I’m personally reaching for again and again, to cool down and feel clear, clean and rejuvenated during this joyful (but not un-challenging) onslaught of SUN!

All of these come with our standard free delivery and additional surprise extras, which I know you love (because you write and tell me!)! 𓆩❤︎𓆪

(Meanwhile, I trust you already know about this.)

I was intrigued! (I’d never done this before)

Leafology Journal: Leaves, Shoots & Roots

Have you ever used a scalp scrub before?

I hadn’t, until fairly recently (instead, I wash my hair with this soothing, cleansing powder which turns to lather in my hair), but scalp scrubs are more and more in demand at the moment and can work really well for different scalp/skin types, removing any product build up, boosting circulation (good for hair growth!) and helping with dandruff/related issues.

Although I don’t suffer with any itchiness/irritation (most likely because of the aforementioned routine, thereby having cut out irritating shampoos several years ago!), I was intrigued enough to try a scalp scrub recently (with my nearest Himalayan Herbal Body Scrub), and felt quite renewed! There is something so healing about salt, and when infused with the plant oils, botanicals and softening shea butter, it’s quite the aromatherapeutic experience!

[I’m updating my ‘Rebel‘ page, a list of all Leafology products in alphabetical order, (with their various alternative, obvious and non-obvious uses), as we speak!]

Then I received an absolutely lovely email from a customer, Kim, who described herself as being on a ‘hair journey’. She said:

Plastic free innovation!

Leafology Journal: Leaves, Shoots & Roots

Following on from my announcement about the Leafodorant being a finalist in the ‘EVERYDAY ESSENTIALS’ category, I can also reveal that the Renaissance Cleansing powder for hair and body has been shortlisted by the Veggie Awards 2024 as a finalist in the ‘PLASTIC FREE INNOVATION’ category! 🎉

One recyclable metal tin replaces two plastic bottles (shampoo and body wash) in your shower, while refills are delivered in paper bags, with money-saving bulk buy options and free delivery within the UK.

Fingers crossed for winning – wouldn’t that be amazing?! I’ve often wished I had promoted the Renaissance more cleverly as it’s so different from anything else out there, but we’ve always just relied on word of mouth!

So yes, rather than waffle on here about the ins and outs of why I created the formulation, exactly which plants are in it and how game-changing this powder-to-lather formulation is (besides, you can discover this for yourself quite easily here), I thought I’d let some customers do the talking:

Q: What’s the best skincare for teenagers?

FAQs

Wondering what to buy for the teenager in your family, or if teenagers really need a ‘skincare routine’? Are you a teenager with unpredictable, changing skin, and you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the choices out there? Want to try ‘something’ but don’t know where to start? Maybe you’re wondering how best to treat spots without actually making things worse…

Here’s your guide to choosing wisely from the very beginning.

[Spoiler alert: teenagers, in my view, don’t need much (and often doing ‘too much’ can cause more problems), just the right things.]

Q: How do you use the Yellow Gold Cleansing Balm? Does it actually cleanse? Does it just wash off with water?

FAQs

We advocate ‘oil cleansing’ with our natural facecare products, which essentially/arguably means ‘doing less’ while still cleaning the skin gently and effectively. There is less provocation or irritation of the delicate structure of the skin using this method than there may be when using traditional face washes.

In short, our Yellow Gold Cleasing Balm doesn’t froth or foam up, and doesn’t emulsify either… So how does it work and how do you use it?

👩🏼💞 My Mum’s weird theory | + her secrets! (She’s often complimented on her skin!)

Leafology Journal: Leaves, Shoots & Roots

You might have met her already at an event/fair, experienced her excellent product-wrapping skills and (in my opinion) sometimes chaotic handwriting (it’s almost identical to my own, so I can hardly complain)…

I’m talking about my brilliant Mum, without whom I could not manage Leafology. She plays a huge role in the business at this point, having agreed to help me out back when things started to take off and I quickly became overwhelmed. She helps me in the studio (she used to write all the batch numbers by hand for every product ever made, though we’ve now graduated to printed versions as it got a bit much…), packs up the daily orders for despatch and makes occasional appearances at market stalls and events with me!

(Scroll to the end of the email to discover my Mum’s weird theory. Can you relate?!)

I thought it would be fun to text her and ask what her current top 3 Leafology products are, to do a little feature for Mother’s Day.

This is a copy and paste of what she replied (I’ve added links so you know what she means by the acronyms & abbreviations!):

“Hello!
I would say Precious petals, OFF and Lady Grey, plus Renaissance and Tooth Powder are the ones I wouldn’t want to be without.

But then there’s Baby balm and Baby Oil that I use all the time as well. They’re all too good!

But also GFD and Frankincense eye serum. I use them all, all the time!

I’m particularly enjoying PP as a rich moisturiser at the moment. I’m hooked!”

… So yeah, more than 3! 😆

Fun fact: all orders placed between now and Mother’s Day are being sent out with rose petals scattered amidst our eco-friendly paper packaging. 🌹🥀💐

Psoriasis? Eczema? This one’s for you

Leafology Journal: Leaves, Shoots & Roots

I often receive extremely heart-warming emails from customers who’ve taken a chance on Leafology and lived to not regret it… ???? Specifically, lots of you ask if we have anything for difficult skin conditions which have been plaguing you for a while, and I often point you to particular products which I’ve heard have worked wonders for others with similar tales. In a nutshell: you are not alone, and we may be able to help!

Jade’s Eczema StoryIsn’t ‘eczema’ an interesting word to spell? Quite amazing that there isn’t an ‘x’ in there. ANYWAY, here’s how to potentially make eczema more of an ‘ex’ situation in your life…

❤️ Time to bundle up?

Leafology Journal: Leaves, Shoots & Roots
Time to bundle up?I officially turned on my little heater today. My skin was stinging with the chill in my cottage and I thought NOPE. Not doing that, despite everything; I need a nudge of first, autumnal heat.
(Yes, many of us are trying to be frugal, but isn’t health wealth?)I hope you’re warm, wherever you are. ????

Guest post from Sustainable Jungle: How to care for your skin in the sun

Leafology Journal: Leaves, Shoots & Roots

Today I have a guest post to share from the writers at Sustainable Jungle, a brilliant publication which is, in their words ‘here to encourage and galvanise positive change. We share sustainability related ideas, tips, tricks, hacks, products, brands and stories of people & organisations doing meaningful work to future-proof our planet.’

It’s so nice to collaborate with like-minded people, and I highly recommend a browse through the link above to pick up a few ideas on things you can do in your everyday life to approach things in a new way, with SO many articles on every possible sustainaility-related subject you could want. Tips galore!

Below is the guest post – and although it’s currently deep into autumn here in the UK, I am personally still wearing my Sun Drops daily, as well as using it now and then as a spot treatment (topical zinc is one of the most widely-studied acne-care ingredients, and works a charm!) – plus it’s always summer somewhere in the world, yes? 🙂

If you happen to subscribe to Vegan Life Magazine, you might have noticed that our very own Renaissance Cleansing Powder was ‘Editor’s Choice’ this month.

It was quite magical to receive a copy in the post and see it being featured right at the start of the magazine! ???? ???? ????
