Plastic free innovation!

Leafology Journal: Leaves, Shoots & Roots

Following on from my announcement about the Leafodorant being a finalist in the ‘EVERYDAY ESSENTIALS’ category, I can also reveal that the Renaissance Cleansing powder for hair and body has been shortlisted by the Veggie Awards 2024 as a finalist in the ‘PLASTIC FREE INNOVATION’ category! 🎉

One recyclable metal tin replaces two plastic bottles (shampoo and body wash) in your shower, while refills are delivered in paper bags, with money-saving bulk buy options and free delivery within the UK.

Fingers crossed for winning – wouldn’t that be amazing?! I’ve often wished I had promoted the Renaissance more cleverly as it’s so different from anything else out there, but we’ve always just relied on word of mouth!

So yes, rather than waffle on here about the ins and outs of why I created the formulation, exactly which plants are in it and how game-changing this powder-to-lather formulation is (besides, you can discover this for yourself quite easily here), I thought I’d let some customers do the talking:

Marshmallow, Moss & Circus tricks! 🎪 …VEGGIE AWARDS 2024 FINALISTS

Leafology Journal: Leaves, Shoots & Roots

Hello! 🌿

I’m actually-a-bit-ecstatic to announce that our vegan, plastic-avoiding natural Leafodorant has been shortlisted for the Veggie Awards 2024 in the ‘Everyday Essentials’ category! 🎉

We’re right up there among some huge, household names, so it’s a bit surreal…

Although it would be a thrill to actually win, and we’ll know in a few months what the celebrity judges will conclude, I’m just happy to be in the finals!!

(AND it’s not the only product we’ve got shortlisted for an award – there’s another category we’ve gained a finalist badge in too! More on this next time!)

…But yes, the Leafodorant is a rare breed of natural deodorant which actually works. 🥳

All about the Leafodorant:

🪄 Change can be a good thing! (We had room for improvement.)

Leafology Journal: Leaves, Shoots & Roots

Hello! 🌿

I’m excited to tell you about a little change we’ve made!

We’ve recently changed the container shape for the utterly unique, plastic-bottle-free, all-I-ever-wash-my-hair-with Renaissance Cleansing Powder, from the older-style bottle shape to the super-cool, wide-necked tins shown in this page, for extra-easy customer refilling at home! I realise this sounds ultra geeky and like a very boring detail (has running my own business finally turned me mad?), but we’re kinda in love with the new shaped tins, and – confession – it also makes it MUCH easier for US, since, blimmin’ ‘eck, the Renaissance flies off the shelves (quite rightly, especially since so many of you seek solutions for eczema/psoriasis symptoms and are ready to try something new). We’re saving a ton of time now when hand-filling each individual one for you! Oh, and they stack!

No funnel required. When you buy your paper bag refill, to fill up your original tin, you can now just merrily spoon it in.

I recently received the following review from Gina, along with this picture she took of her latest delivery, tagging us on IG ẃith the words ‘I don’t believe I will ever tire of using them‘.

Here are Gina’s words…

👩🏼💞 My Mum’s weird theory | + her secrets! (She’s often complimented on her skin!)

Leafology Journal: Leaves, Shoots & Roots

You might have met her already at an event/fair, experienced her excellent product-wrapping skills and (in my opinion) sometimes chaotic handwriting (it’s almost identical to my own, so I can hardly complain)…

I’m talking about my brilliant Mum, without whom I could not manage Leafology. She plays a huge role in the business at this point, having agreed to help me out back when things started to take off and I quickly became overwhelmed. She helps me in the studio (she used to write all the batch numbers by hand for every product ever made, though we’ve now graduated to printed versions as it got a bit much…), packs up the daily orders for despatch and makes occasional appearances at market stalls and events with me!

(Scroll to the end of the email to discover my Mum’s weird theory. Can you relate?!)

I thought it would be fun to text her and ask what her current top 3 Leafology products are, to do a little feature for Mother’s Day.

This is a copy and paste of what she replied (I’ve added links so you know what she means by the acronyms & abbreviations!):

“Hello!
I would say Precious petals, OFF and Lady Grey, plus Renaissance and Tooth Powder are the ones I wouldn’t want to be without.

But then there’s Baby balm and Baby Oil that I use all the time as well. They’re all too good!

But also GFD and Frankincense eye serum. I use them all, all the time!

I’m particularly enjoying PP as a rich moisturiser at the moment. I’m hooked!”

… So yeah, more than 3! 😆

Fun fact: all orders placed between now and Mother’s Day are being sent out with rose petals scattered amidst our eco-friendly paper packaging. 🌹🥀💐

Psoriasis? Eczema? This one’s for you

Leafology Journal: Leaves, Shoots & Roots

I often receive extremely heart-warming emails from customers who’ve taken a chance on Leafology and lived to not regret it… ???? Specifically, lots of you ask if we have anything for difficult skin conditions which have been plaguing you for a while, and I often point you to particular products which I’ve heard have worked wonders for others with similar tales. In a nutshell: you are not alone, and we may be able to help!

Jade’s Eczema StoryIsn’t ‘eczema’ an interesting word to spell? Quite amazing that there isn’t an ‘x’ in there. ANYWAY, here’s how to potentially make eczema more of an ‘ex’ situation in your life…

Are boys allowed?

Leafology Journal: Leaves, Shoots & Roots

I’m sometimes asked, ‘Do you have anything for men?Although perhaps not always obvious, the answer is a big ‘Yes!’ Anyone can use the products.

Boys CAN play here.

Below is a run down of the products I find most popular with the men among us. (And if you are a man reading this, thank you for realising how welcome you are!)For a general facial moisturiser, the Good Face Day Serum with Green Tea, Raspberry Seed & Juniper is popular, effective and has a gentle, subtle herbal smell (not overly ‘floral’) and works wonders on dry/sensitive skin.

It’s been a whirlwind of a week/month for me – on top of preparing for the brilliant 3-day Handmade in Britain event at Waterperry Gardens (hello and welcome if I met you there!), watching the amazing Hans Zimmer at the O2 in London (HIGHLY recommended!) and releasing Leafology’s first perfume, Bloom (recent review: ‘Oh my goodness so gorgeous! Love wearing it in the day or even at night before bed.‘*),  I visited a very good friend who decided to leave England for Portugal 2.5 years ago, where she’d bought some land in an act of rebellion against the British weather.

Totally off-grid, we’re talking compost toilets, solar power lights and water pumped up the mountain from the river. I stayed in a tent and embraced the ‘back to basics’ vibe.

No twelve-step skincare routine for me (actually, this is never my reality – I like multipurpose luxury and products that work, without the faff, which is why I created them!), but I do have some tips for anyone packing for an upcoming trip…

❤️ Time to bundle up?

Leafology Journal: Leaves, Shoots & Roots
Time to bundle up?I officially turned on my little heater today. My skin was stinging with the chill in my cottage and I thought NOPE. Not doing that, despite everything; I need a nudge of first, autumnal heat.
(Yes, many of us are trying to be frugal, but isn’t health wealth?)I hope you’re warm, wherever you are. ????
